Scorpionfish

For defense, scorpionfish have hollow spines that can deliver venom to a potential predator. The strength of the venom varies from merely painful to fatal to humans, in the case of the reef stonefish. The 1500 species of scorpionfish include various types called stonefish, waspfish, velvetfish, searobins, and gurnard scorpionfish as well as flatheads and gurnards.
